Berlin-based architects Praeger Richter refused to let complex framework conditions rein in their creative freedom when it came to designing a multi-family residence in the Florastraße in the city’s Pankow district. The innovative new-build nestling in a typical Berlin location, which picked up a prize in the densification category of the “AWARD DEUTSCHER WOHNUNGSBAU 2019”, offers wide-ranging benefits to the residents and surrounding neighborhood and is one of the district’s crowning glories. For example, common areas such as the roof terrace, rear courtyard, and front garden are used and tended by all residents.
The nested structure means that every residential unit has access to private outside space. All 17 apartments feature at least one outside seating area – usually more – in the form of a balcony, loggia, or conservatory, lending them a generously sized, bright, and airy feel. The building also includes two commercial units. Despite their different floor plans and uses, bathrooms throughout the building feature products from the Duravit’s D-Code series – a comprehensive program offering variants and solutions for all conceivable spatial circumstances and discrete, timelessly modern forms.
